Val Ritchie Biography
Val grew up on the
beaches of Ventura County in Southern California. She earned her
degree in Physical Education at Chico State, while also competing
Intercollegiately on the volleyball, basketball and track teams. She
received her Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from
Seattle University and was an AAU All-American on a Seattle-based
national championship AAU basketball team. Val has been a teacher of
Health and Exercise Science, as well as department chair at Seattle
Prep, a Jesuit High School, for the past 18 years. She coached
varsity volleyball for 12 years and varsity basketball for 15 years,
winning the city championship and being named coach of the year in
her final basketball season. Val has directed several summer
basketball camps and taught in Australia on a six month teacher
exchange. She has attended Workshop since 1984 and taught the boogie
boarding class in 1999. Besides boogie boarding, Val plays golf,
basketball and competed in her first triathlon last summer.

while enjoying the camaraderie of nearby seals, dolphins and fellow
surfers. All you need is a board, wetsuit, fins and a sense of
