Swart Biography
Bettye attended Chico
State College and lettered in tennis, badminton, volleyball and field
hockey. After college, her passion for sports led her to teaching and
coaching at Leigh High School in Northern California. In 1991 she was
awarded the CAHPERD - Outstanding Individual Award for Physical
Education in Santa Clara County. She is currently a mentor teacher
and physical education teacher and coach of the men's and women's
tennis team at South El Monte High School. When not teaching Bette
can be found involved in ocean kayaking, fly fishing in the Eastern
Sierras, running and continuing her quest to climb all the 14,000
foot peaks in California. After her tenure as Director of the 1995
Cal Poly Workshop, Bettye is spending her time as co-chair of Laguna
Outreach in Orange County. She is using her organizational skills to
again create adventures for people, by continuing her motto, "When
Was the Last Time You Did Something For The First Time" through her
Awesome Adventures Program. Bettye is very happy to be on the staff
of such a wonderful workshop.
